I rode the trains after that day and I remember them as very slow, freezing cold because heat didn't work and just lousy service. I remember the drawbridge getting stuck open in winter because the mechanisms froze. I remember the days of a late-hours shuttle from Rockaway Park to Far Rockaway and then to Euclid Avenue. The service was awful then, and I guess it hasn't changed much. Too bad the City didn't want to bankroll the LIRR in 1950 to rebuild the trestle and continue that service.
