The Q train advisory for this weekend is late nights only - 12:01am to 5am each weekend day. It is also basically running every night during August. While the wording is confusing, the advisory posted on the MTA website does say "Weekend late night" - a subtle but very important distinction!

This diversion is the only way to really do track work between DeKalb Avenue and Prospect Park on the Brighton Line, allowing single tracking. It cannot really be run any time except overnights because it cannot handle the amount of daytime service (and because the Q to/from Manhattan uses the express tracks at Pacific Street to turn around, which would be in use during the day by D and N trains). If more extensive work is required in this section, the Q would have to be re-routed to/from Coney Island in one direction, such as via the N (Sea Beach) line.

I took the Q from Kings Highway to 14th Street-Union Square this morning. It's running normally.

I picked that one up from one of the MTA's Advisory e-mails. They sent it out late this afternoon.

I hope they wised up to the fact that subway service this weekend in southern Brooklyn will be a mess if they don't stagger the work. If the press release is true, there will be no direct service to Manhattan on the Brighton, Culver, and Sea Beach lines. That's a bit much.

This <a href="http://mta.info/mta/news/releases/?en=080731-NYCT116" rel="nofollow">press release</a> says this weekend, and the signs at the Q stops agree. Check before you go.

According to the MTA Web site, the service advisory for the Q train is in effect starting the weekend of August 9, not this weekend. So who's right and who's wrong here?
