Why don't they just admit that nothing can ever be built in this city ever again and cancel the whole project.

Thanks for letting me know about the Staten Island Expressway project, Boris. I've added it to the Spreadsheet o'Boondoggles.

Hm, $50 million sounds familiar...

Not only would we end congestion forever, but we would have a start-of-the-art system with the new lines — SAS, for one — that we need. It's a damn shame really.

I clicked on the NY1 link to check out the story and noticed a link to another news item, "Transit Officials To Ease Congestion At S.I. Expressway." Apparently, $50 million just appeared out of the blue for road construction in Staten Island. Don't you just love how road projects find millions upon millions of dollars at the drop of a hat, while public transit projects have to go begging?

Multiply $50 million by the number of such projects statewide, and it's easy to see that if that amount was spent on public transit, we could end congestion forever. But now we'll have to deal with years of construction delays just to end up right where we started sometime in the 2010's.
