I don't understand that motivation; if I had the spare time to code up a solution to this, I'd share it with everyone in the "spirit of discovery", and the lively discussions it would cause would be a lot more interesting than getting my name in a book. Quite a few people have attempted it, so it is pretty remarkable that these guys lopped 2 hours off of the previous record. That is a substantial improvement.
