Now they're selling the naming rights to the adjacent subway station. What's next--The Lion King Station? Michael Jordan's Steak House Terminal? The mind reels.

I think it's a political assessment. Perkins could ask them to vote no, but no one will listen. People are far more likely to listen to a request for a delay.

I don't care where the Nets are. I don't really care what goes up there--as long as the developer follows the rules, pays market value for the land, and isn't given these sweetheart deals by politicians (that includes "bonuses" for building so-called "affordable" housing). Yeah, I know, kind of laughable in NYC.

This whole Atlantic Yards project/proposal has been a boondoggle from the start (disclosure of personal bias: I want the Nets to stay in NJ). But there's one statement in this article that really bothers me: "State Senator Bill Perkins has also asked the MTA to delay voting on the deal". Ignoring the lack of integrity in the State Senate for a moment, this is exactly why nothing gets done. Why delay the vote? Just vote - vote "no" - and move on.

Does your subject line even require an answer? As for blaming the MTA, I think the people have gotten a little taste for who really pulls the strings there, ... but nothing will change.
