Sander had to fight on many fronts simultaneously. Maybe he mistook the "choose your battles, big enogh to matter, small enough to win" Rule. Maybe Walder is making better choices early on. I hope so. But if the bus lane enforcement expires on the operating table how will that affect his next battle choice?

Right now the best thing Walder has done is negotiate himself a strong severance package. That won't push bus lane enforcement through Albany but it may strengthen his crisis engineering hand to ultimately move the legislature.

I am not so sure that Sander even attempted to make this a priority. You are correct that Walder will need to be better than Sander was at persuading the legislature to do his bidding.

So you and Mr. Walder have discovered that buses can be a lot more efficient if you get the cars and trucks out of there way. Very insightful. Can it therefor be assumed that was lost to Lee Sander? The real test will be if Mr. Walder can take that very obvious understanding and accordingly driving policy through a state government dominated by the suburban, exurban and rural politicians representing three cars in a two car garage.

How about using those rubber lane separators used elsewhere in the city ( http://dinosnycpics.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/dsc_0016.jpg ) to separate off the BRT lanes? Car drivers can't just swing in and out of them like they can with the current bus lanes.

Should we assume that when you said buses "really arrive as scheduled" what you meant was that they "rarely arrive as scheduled"?
