It's time the MTA put the onus of student Metrocard funding where it belongs - the state and city government. For all those blowhards - Charles Barron, I'm looking at you - it's time to shut them up. It's not like there's this magical pot of gold the MTA can dip into to make this work.

Here's an idea - the MTA announces they'll fund student Metrocards but it's only possible if they raise the fare another 25 cents. I'd imagine the fury over the MTA not funding student travel would die down.

Why on EARTH do the "big five" cities have an exemption from the requirement to provide transportation to students? My city, Ithaca, certainly doesn't have an exemption.

I believe the problem is the state legislature. Again.

I think the idea of not paying for students' transportation to school is so unacceptable to the voters that it has no chance of actually happening. Heck, Paterson has already promised as much. All in all, a good stroke of political theater on the MTA's part.

Truancy rates? They don't exist for long. DOE computer automatically notifies ACS which starts an "educational neglect" investigation threatening the parents with jail time and the teenager goes into foster care.
