Reminder: weekend work canceled

By

Just a quick reminder in the usual spot for the weekend service advisories: Due to today’s snow storm, the MTA has canceled all weekend work. The Culver Viaduct project will start next weekend instead, and trains will operate on a normal weekend schedule. The snow didn’t build up much in the five boroughs, but the MTA went to Plan 4 when the forecast called for five inches. You just can’t predict the weather.

Meanwhile, allow me to take a second to remind you of other places where you can find Second Ave. Sagas. You can follow me on Twitter or be a fan on Facebook. Get instant notifications of new SAS materials and witty and informative updates about the subway system as well.

…but “Plan 4″ means, what, “many” or “most” trains are running local? It was really slow going last night at 10:30pm as everything was already in snow mode. It may not be track work but it basically felt like the same thing for those of us whom travel times double when the expresses are all trying to fit on the local.

Plan 4 means, among other things, that trains that are normally stored in yards are instead stored on underground express tracks. That means that a lot of trains that normally run express instead have to run local.

Hooray to all the sad sacks. You got more warning time!

    “snow” storm.

What storm? What a waste of a weekend work schedule. The City and MTA way overreacted to just a regular snow fall

    • The forecast on Thursday morning called for 5 inches of snow, and that’s what the MTA does every time there’s five inches of snow in the forecast. We can’t have it both ways. We can’t complain about a poor response to a storm and then complain when a predicted storm doesn’t materialize.
