This may be the worst weekend all year for service delays. Nearly every line has multiple route changes that go into effect tonight at 12:01 a.m. You’ll see stops skipped, lines rerouted, the whole shebang.
SubwayWeekender has the changes in a convenient map form. Me? Well, after last night’s ride home, I might just walk everywhere this weekend, Saturday’s rain be damned.
I wonder why New York City Transit has stopped releasing these service changes in press release form. Anyway, they’re all available in the Know Before You Go e-mails.

I am wondering if many of these weekend construction / maintenance projects will be cancelled due to the pending Tropical Storm Hana. We got lucky one weekend this past Winter that snow forecasts cancelled that weekend’s changes.
Interestingly, I just got this “weather-related service alert” email. I am pleased that they are using their email list to communicate something worthwhile.
To our customers:
Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain, are forecasted for this weekend and could impact subway service. We have already begun preparations to safeguard the system from flooding. This includes the cleaning of subway drains, checking all subway pumps and pre-positioning personnel and equipment at flood prone locations. We may also move trains from their storage yards and store them underground instead.
In the event that weather does impact subway service, we will notify the media and post updates on our website. Please listen to local radio reports and check our website Please check http://www.mta.info for current ‘Service Alert’ information. Click on the flashing service alert triangle.

I spent 40 minutes waiting for a downtown A train at 42nd Street on Saturday evening. No announcement — not a word. Five E trains came in that time. I was going to Ft. Greene so I couldn’t take the E. Had they said something when I got to the station, I’d have taken the 7 or F to the G. Instead, I finally gave up and canceled my plans.
The E and F diversions are running five weekends so “October” is the correct end date.
