It might snow, guys. We might get 2-5 inches of snow. Thus, the MTA has entered Level 4 winter preparedness mode, and all weekend work has been canceled with one major exceptions. That pesky 7 line shutdown between Manhattan and Queens will continue as planned. For now, the authority says service will operate on a normal weekend schedule, but if snow accumulation is significant some above-ground routes might shutter. The forecast isn’t that dire though.
In other site news, I’ll be hosting a Q-and-A at the Transit Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 1. It’s part of the new Problem Solvers series. I’ll have more details for you on Monday, but save the date. As a reminder, if you want more Second Ave. Sagas, you could always follow me on Twitter or this photoset has you covered. Enjoy the weekend. Stay warm.

No Weekender this weekend? :-\
All work is canceled. You don’t really need a map for that, do you?
Work or no, there is still at least one route change. The 7 is only running to Queensboro Plaza.
The L is running screwy too, but that’s apparently due to an “ongoing investigation” at Third Ave..
The Weekender is there. The MTA is just has the Snow Emergency page as the lead now. There is a link for the Weekender at the bottom of the the page.
Yeah, I meant it wasn’t on the front. Wasn’t really a big deal, just the first time I’ve seen that in a while.
I was thinking of the next Fastrack on other lines they should do on
-BMT Broadway Line (N) (R) both directions rerouted via bridge. Workers could do the Dey Street connection, station painting, and repairing the tunnel. Customers could transfer to the (4) (6). The 4 express could end early to help customers.
-BMT Nassau St Line (J) they could do a turnaround in Canal St to do Chambers Street rehab (it need a rehab badly)
Was the Nassau St. line ever going to be part of Fastrack in the first place? I mean it’s already a pretty minimally used line overnights south of Chambers to begin with and has no turn around ability near Canal. I suppose they could shunt traffic off to the unused platform at Bowery and turn it around there.
I have no idea. But it’s shut down south of Chambers during the weekend as part of normal operations anyway, for reasons I’m still not clear on. Storage?
Low ridership and duplicative stops- you can already transfer at Chambers-City Hall to the 4/5 for Fulton and Wall/Broad (no more than a couple hundred feet walk up to Broadway for the 4/5).
After the 7th, I don’t know that one of the 6th/8th/Broadway needs Fastrack sooner than the others.
Re the J: Well, nice, but it’s hardly any further and it means that what might already be two-seat rides become three seat rides.
The reason is that crews on the J work three round trips on weekends. Extending the line two stops would bump up the running time just enough to cut that down to two round trips, so it would be a pretty costly extension.
