Why is the D is running local in brooklyn? Since the N is express im not sure why
Culver Viaduct work. Gives IND riders going to and from Manhattan an option that isn’t a shuttle bus if they’re close enough.
Happy to see that service is being restored for Coney Island bound F trains and Church Avenue bound G trains at Ft Hamilton Pkway! Going to enjoy having that regular service back!

Isn’t that Times piece badly written? Anybody reading that who is NOT a transit buff like us here, would be left with the impression that there will be a new station at Second Ave. and 63rd St. (OK, so they are are adding a Third Ave. entrance to the 63rd/Lex station. That IS a good idea, but it does not make it “count” as a new station.) ALSO, notice how they are still sticking to the date of December 2016.
I am wondering what they are doing at the 63rd street station when the F is rerouted are they using the F platform or they are using the big blue wall. I would love pictures of what they are doing. It is tempting to sneak in and see the work zone.
Kind of off topic, but here goes: Track work on Lex IRT suspended all 4 trains below B’klyn Bridge at 12:01am Tues-Fri the past few weeks. Well, that meant all 4 trains ran local only to B’klyn Bridge beginning much earlier (around 11:30). OK, i get that. So the alternate is the N train to get to Cortlandt, Rector and Whitehall streets. I grabbed a Lex Local at Grand Central at 11:53, got to Union Sq to transfer to the N and just missed one at midnight exactly. The next downtown N came at 12:25. That’s right, a 25 min wait for a local to Whitehall, which got me and a bunch of SI Ferry riders to South Ferry just 5 mins after the ferry left at 12:30.
So using the MTA’s alternate, it took 45 mins to get from Grand Central to Battery Park, which is normally a 12 min ride. After missing the ferry, I waited until 1am, and got home to St. George at 1:40am, slightly less than 2 hours after I left work in Midtown. Two hours to go 9 miles. If anyone wonders why folks drive into midtown from the outer boros, here you have it. I wont even go into the filthy, urine covered homeless dude who took up half the car on the N portion of the ride. Every time I give the subway the benefit of the doubt, something like this happens. Never again.
And to all those who say “then why don’t you move off Staten Island” i’m way ahead of you. Getting the heck out of the city altogether, lock, stock and job this June. Will not miss the subway, the grime, the rats, the pee smell, and a subway system that is slowly heading back to its 1970s and ’80s low point. I’m done kids. G’bye.
Well, good luck! But remember: You know what they say about the job market being so bad these days. If you move somewhere else in order to take a specific job that exists there, what if you wind up getting fired or laid off, or if the job turns out to be so intolerable that you quit?
That and the suburbs turning to slums these days.
Where are you moving to?
THAT’S the question that I forgot to ask in my reply to Cobalt.
