I don’t get it. Why is the (D) running local uptown if the (F) is getting escalator replacement at East Broadway, all the way downtown?
To avoid congestion with the southbound F and northbound D (both of which have to be on the local track at West 4th to use the crossovers there), the C is on the express in both directions. Rather than have to cross paths at 59th, keeping the D on the local and the C on the express north of that point reduces the potential for delays.
