• To 36th Street, Steinway Street, 46th Street, Northern Boulevard and 65th Street, customers may take the Jamaica Center-bound E or the 71st Avenue-bound R to Roosevelt Avenue and transfer to a Manhattan-bound E local or R.
• From these stations, customers may take a Manhattan-bound E or R to Queens Plaza and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound E or 71st Avenue-bound R.

From 9 p.m. Friday, April 5 to 4 a.m. Monday, April 8, there is no SIR service between the St. George Terminal and Clifton stations due to maintenance and repair work. Free shuttle buses operate between the St. George and Clifton stations.

• Shuttle buses at St George Station leave from the Skyway
• Shuttle buses at Clifton Station leave from Bay Street and Norwood Avenue

From 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 until Friday, July 12, one stairway at the Stapleton Station will be closed due to platform construction work. Customers must use the stairway at Prospect Street for access to and from Stapleton Station.

The roving band of FASTRACK services outages will hit the BMT Nassau Street line tonight as the J train will not operate south of Essex/Delancey Sts. Beginning each night through Friday at 10 p.m. and continuing through 5 a.m., J trains will not stop at Broad Street, Fulton Street, Chambers Street, Canal Street or the Bowery, and Transit urging riders to seek some nearby, if imperfect, alternate routes.

Here’s how Transit bills this one:

• F and 4, 6 trains provide connecting service between J trains at Delancey Street-Essex Street and Lower Manhattan.
• Transfer between F and J trains at Delancey Street-Essex Street
• Transfer between F and 4 or 6 trains at Bleecker Street-Broadway/Lafayette Street.
• A trains at Fulton Street connect with J trains at Broadway Junction
• E trains at World Trade Center connect with J trains at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue.

That the J has such low overnight ridership through Lower Manhattan means fewer New Yorkers will be inconvenienced by this change, but parallel service requires a pair of extra transfers for those trying to reach South Williamsburg and beyond. Meanwhile, it’s doubtful that the real scourge of the Nassau St. line — the decrepit Chambers St. stop — will see much, if any, improvement as FASTRACK focuses more on track infrastructure rather than stations that require top-to-bottom rehabs.

The next FASTRACK treatment comes to the Concourse line between 161st Street-Yankee Stadium and 205th Street next week.

Excuse the lateness. I didn’t have a chance to post this update before my family Seder tonight. FASTRACK arrived a short while ago on the local 6 train this evening, and the outage will run each night this week from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

As changes go, this one’s easy: The 6 train will run express from 125th St. to 42nd St. in both direction, bypassing 51st St., 68th St., 77th St., 96th St., 103rd St., 110th St. and 116th St. Customers looking for the interim stops can either walk from nearby express stations or transfer to the M101 Limited, making all local 6 stops and running up 3rd Ave. and down Lexington Ave. The worst of this week’s changes concern the 5. Service along the 5 train into Manhattan will end early, and riders will have to switch to the 2 at Grand Concourse to catch the 5 at East 180th St.

And speaking of FASTRACK, my next “Problem Solvers” session at the Transit Museum will focus on this new maintenance program. Scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9th, I’ll be quizzing Larry Gould, a senior director in Transit’s Operations Analysis division about FASTRACK. We’ll tackle the complexities involved in making routine repairs without disrupting vital service for a transit system that never sleeps. Here’s the Museum’s description:

As a part of the Operations Planning division, Gould helps determine what parts of the subway system can be shut down, decides when to shut them down, configures service to accommodate the shutdown and coordinates customer communications. A native of the Bronx, Larry attended New York University as an undergraduate and graduate school at the Northwestern University Transportation Institute. Outside of NYC Transit, Larry is executive officer of the New York Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism, an advocate for compact, mixed-use neighborhoods, and he won the Sloan Public Service Award in 2004.

Tonight’s FASTRACK promises to be one of the more disruptive ones as the Queens Boulevard line gets its due. Starting tonight at 10 p.m. and continuing each night this week until 5 a.m., there will be major disruptions along the E, F, M and R lines. The 7 and N trains as well as free shuttle buses in Queens will pick up the slack, but travel times will be a bit longer for many Queens- and Manhattan-bound riders who rely on the those IND lines.

Here’s the story in handy-to-follow bullet points as trains will operate as follows:

• E in Queens only between Jamaica Center and 74th Street/Roosevelt Avenue
• F in two sections:
1. Between 179th Street and Roosevelt Avenue and
2. Between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and 21st Street-Queensbridge.
• M service ends early each night and the M shuttle operates between Metropolitan and Myrtle Avenues all night.
• R service ends early each night and the R shuttle operates in Brooklyn between 95th Street and 36th Street all night.

So how does one get around? Well, the MTA offers up these lovely suggestions:

• Take the 7 between Manhattan and 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue or Queensboro Plaza
• Take the N between Manhattan and Queensboro Plaza
• In Manhattan, transfer at 5th Avenue/42nd Street-Bryant Park for the 7 or F, Times Square-42nd Street/42nd Street-Port Authority for the 7 or A, and 34th Street-Herald Square for the F or N
• In Manhattan along 8th Avenue, take the A local instead of the E
• Take free shuttle buses running LOCAL between Queensboro Plaza and 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue making station stops at Queens Plaza, 36th Street, Steinway Street, 46th Street, Northern Blvd and 65th Street
• In Queens, transfer between shuttle buses and trains at 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue for the 7, E and F or Queensboro Plaza for the 7 and N

The utter silence on tonight’s FASTRACK from most media outlets makes me think New York City subway riders have simply accepted this program as a necessary evil, and in a way, it is. Tonight’s though is a challenge. It will impact late-night JFK-bound travelers and many folks just trying to get to Queens. Allow lots of extra time.

Before the service advisories, some subway map news: The MTA’s Weekender app has been award an Appy Award for the best app in the “Mapping/Navigation” category, and the agency is quite pleased.

“Weekend track work is a fact of life because we must take tracks out of service to keep them in a state of good repair, but if you use the Weekender app before you head out, you can avoid the worst of the impacts by being prepared or working around them,” Paul J. Fleuranges, the MTA’s Senior Director of Corporate and Internal Communications, said in a statement. “We are pleased that our efforts have been recognized at the national level.”
