Video of the Day: The Station Rat problem
ByI knew the MTA’s rat problem was getting out of hand, but this might be one of the largest I’ve seen so far…
A tip of the hat to @StationRat.

Funny!
Here’s a riddle… Where in the transit system will you find the most rats?
That rat should be commended. All of those things he complains about are steps in the right direction.
1. Raise fares more, and introduce fare zones. A trip from the Bronx to Brooklyn should cost more than a trip from GCT to City Hall.
2. CPI is not a valid measure of actual inflation. 3x CPI means pretty much nothing.
3. NYS shouldn’t be sending a penny, a SINGLE penny, to the MTA.
4. The MTA has a long way to go in cutting waste. Don’t make Albany and the North counties foot the bill for the graft.
5. The MTA’s fingers are in all sorts of taxes in lots of counties in the state. Give those fingers a bit of a nibble.
MTAs hands are where? The state has been taking money out of the dedicated payroll tax meant to go to the MTA…
Oh God, I don’t have the time or energy to fully debate this, so I’ll make it quick:
1) Horrible idea. The more affordable housing is in the outer boroughs, and you want to increase their fares? It also goes against the 5 boros = 1 city idea.
2) What other measurement of inflation is there?
3) Then how else will the MTA get funded? And I suppose you want to get rid of the gas tax and highway and road maintenance too, that’s also paid by tax dollars. Now, if you were arguing for the elimination and replacement of the MTA, while keeping commitments to mass transit funding…
4/5) What’s wrong with the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation District? Mass transit needs to be funded somehow. Also, the NYC economy provides the lions share of NY State revenue. Even if that were not the case, one of the major roles of a government is fiscal transfers, for the benefit of the greater good.
So what do you propose we do about the north of $100 million Albany took from the dedicated MTA budget and redistributed it elsewhere? Under your “stop the graft” plan I assume the MTA gets all that money back? …Didn’t think so.
Couldn’t make it past the first few seconds. Who edits crud like this?
