I know they’re trying to make sure it continues to be acknowledged that they’re ~improving~ after having fucked up last winter (or was it two years ago, now? I can’t remember), but this really seems like an extreme overreaction…

It was largely a ridiculous overreaction by the public and press last winter.

No, that never happened before. They gambled and lost, tyring to save a few dollars. The individuals in charge made mistakes on Friday afternoon and Saturday night. That train should not have left the portal. The train operator assumed that the rail control center knew what they were doing when they ordered the train to proceed.
This is the kind of weekend where you gamble by not calling a snow plan.

mmmm…a snow plan for a dusting? i’m not in agreement. it’s the same overreaction we see city wide now, with snow plows staged on the streets as well as salters. the last snow we had, the 1 with about 3 inches, there was a snow plow on my block every hour, literally. way over the top for a few inches.

No it wasn’t

There was work action by the unions last Jan an no one cared to admit the truth.

Jerrold February 11, 2012 - 6:55 pm

Phantom, wait a minute! Are you saying that the union DELIBERATELY got trains full of passengers stranded in the snow? And that Management was hiding the truth about what the union did?

Absolute BS unionJack, I mean Phantom.

Bolwerk February 12, 2012 - 6:46 pm

Heh. Wouldn’t UnionJack praise such a work action as part of his false flag campaign?

Pay no atention to Phantom, he’s just a figment of our imaginations as Scooby Doo has proven. LOL

Phigment!

I’m not talking about the transit guys-

The Sanitation workers were pissed ar Bloomberg and they dragged their feet on all aspects of snow removal

This was intentional, there for all to see, and it went on for days

But yes let’s be like Mayor Mike and pretend it did not happen

This morning was HELL!

I had to go to Upper East Side. It was the worst morning I ever had and the MTA did not do very well.

-I missed the city bus walked to the subway station in the snow

-Got in the 7 train (I was supposed to go to Queensboro Plaza get the N/Q) the train stopped at 74th street operator told everybody get out of the train. I am deaf so this was difficult to understand a track mananger guy said don’t worry the 2nd train will come.

-Finally 2nd train came and idled in 74th street I asked the motorwoman when the train will move? She said some kind of problem going on.

-I was pissed off I had to go down and get the “E” then transfer to the “R” it was super crowded finally the “R” came the “E” did not come.

-The “R” ride felt like forever!

-Finally got off at 59th st went down to get the expres uptown 4/5 I was greeted by a yellow tape and a sign said “4/5 stop at upper platform local”. Added more time.

Instead of a 40 minutes ride it turned out to be 1 1/2 hours!

The MTA should put a service change saying due to bad weather 4/5 trains are local so i would know!

They do. It’s posted right near the map. It says certain lined run local in bad weather and it gives a list of the lines that do.

How does it snowing affect the underground 4/5?

Reply
Bolwerk February 13, 2012 - 12:09 am

Nearly every line goes above-ground sometimes. I think the only full line that never goes above-ground is the E.

Phantom February 13, 2012 - 6:42 pm

And the R – always protected from the elements

Andrew February 13, 2012 - 1:03 am

When significant snow is in the forecast, trains are stored on underground express tracks instead of in yards, so that they don’t get snowed in.
