The day job has been very busy, and I haven’t a chance at night to delve into a longer post. So instead, enjoy this amusing video of New Yorkers just missing the G train. It is equally applicable to every subway line though and not just the poor, abused G train (which, I’ll always contend, isn’t nearly as bad operationally as its reputation). If you were to follow me on Twitter, you could have seen this video last night. More soon, hopefully.

It signifies something that a video like this with attractive, well dressed young people missing the G train can be made nowadays.
This is a fun video, a bit over the top – exaggerated, but fun.
The scene of the guy with the umbrella really resonates.
That and the woman flipping the bird. I find myself doing that on the 7 when we wait outside of Main Street for 1 of the 3 tracks to clear. So much for ‘express’ service then.
Like the Enigma music. The video is mostly generic to many lines. I thought we’d get a lot more of the G Train Shuffle, and the sound of the G arriving whilst on the mezzanine, and having to run half way up the platform just to miss it and such. But it was a fun vid anyway.
It is *NOT* applicable to every train line.
The implication is that the G has notoriously long headways while at the same time it seems like the direction other than the one you want to go has loads of capacity, and of course, you can’t switch to the other side without losing your fare due to a lack of a mezzanine. See the person reading “Atlas Shrugged”, an extremely long book, as a way of representing the insane amount of time one has to wait for the next one.
There’s a lot packed into this one.
The M60 version @ Astoria Blvd – You see the bus on the east side of Hoyt street from the platform, then race down the 2 flights of stairs and realize it just picked up and is gone.. You yell “Aww f*ck!” – Then you wonder if you have to wait 5 minutes or 20 minutes for the next one.
Thanks for that!
