Calling all train-car buffs

By

A reader writes:

Need your help, want to get a gift for my Friend’s dad. He worked for MTA and in the 50′s and 60′s rode the #5 Dyre Ave line to his Aunts. Would you know what model subway ran that line. Was it the Lo-V’s or the R26…They have models of these cars and I want to make sure I get the right one. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Anyone know the answer to this query?

I agree with Bob. Just to give you some back-up, you can see at the r26/28/29 page at nycsubway.org that the R26 wasn’t built until 1959. So if your friend’s dad worked in the 50′s, the Lo-V is the better choice. I personally remember Lo-Vs running on the Lex into the early 60′s.

Besides, Lo-Vs are so darn pretty.
