Well, according to numbers crunched by reporters, the MTA officials receiving free E-ZPasses tallied up bills worth over $30,000 in 12 months. I read about this in the New York Times along with the Daily News. The whole issue rubs me the wrong way to begin with but one particular aspect has me burning. While one could argue either way about current members having access to these perks, I feel it is impossible to defend past members having them.
I have always known perks to come to people in current positions. When they retire for instance, they are not going to have the perks come with them. Why should the MTA be any different. It is impossible to defend the use by former board member Warren Dolny. He has not served the MTA or its riding public for over a decade! What right should he have to these perks? Absolutely none in my book!
I only wish there was a way to breakdown the usage statistics into official business trips & nonofficial trips to really find out who the major abusers are of these perks.
