Bloomie: You can count on me, maybe

By

Yesterday afternoon, I discussed how Mayor Bloomberg had been notably and intentionally missing from the MTA funding debate. The Mayor apparently didn’t like the article in The Times and responded in kind. “I did work very hard to get Democratic votes for congestion pricing,” he said on Monday, “and I’ll work very hard to get Republican votes for the current plan. But you don’t do that, once again, in front of the cameras. This is not about me.”

Bloomberg may have a chance to make good on his promise as the Senate gears up to debate yet another MTA funding plan. All he has to do is deliver a few G.O.P. votes, and he can take some credit in rescuing transit. As politically uncomfortable a move it may be for the Mayor, the city needs him to do it.
