The IRT on LSD
ByIn the musical Hair, the Tribe sing a song called “Initials” in which LBJ takes the IRT to find a bunch of kids on LSD. It turns out that perhaps the kids weren’t the only ones on LSD. In an intriguing report published while I was on vacation for a few days earlier this month, The Post notes a new book book on the CIA that alleges LSD experiments in the subway. On two occasions in the early 1950s, FBI documents purport to say, the CIA planned to test the hallucinogen in the New York City subway. Supposed, the tests were carried out in November of 1950, but no one has ever confirmed the line or station that served as the intelligence agency’s guinea pig.

Scary. I’m reminded of the excellent and scary (and supposedly factual) movie “Jacob’s Ladder”, only the victims there were American soldiers in Vietnam. I don’t 100% believe either scenario – but without proof, who knows? Makes ya wonder what they’re giving us now.
The writers may have been on LSD at the time too (or at least a little sleepy), since the line goes
LBJ took the IRT down to 4th St, USA…
The only trains that stop at 4th street are the IND.
Maybe they got off at Christopher and walked.
